SHIFT ... Shifting Attitudes to Mental Health

Shifting attitudes to mental illness.

Shift is an initiative to tackle stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues in England. Our aim is to create a society where people who experience mental health problems enjoy the same rights and opportunities as other people.

Please note that the SHIFT website came to end on March 31st 2011. However the SHIFT website will remain online until at least 2013. It is recommended that materials of interest be downloaded to make sure you have continued access to information.

The MINDFUL EMPLOYER Line Managers' Resource offer a range of practical guidance and information for line managers and others such as HR and occupational health advisors, union representatives and others whose role is to support staff. Managing and Supporting Mental Health at Work: disclosure tools for managers

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development carried out a survey of 2,000 people in employment in the UK which revealed that despite more than a quarter (26%) of employees having experienced a mental health problem while in employment, too few employers are taking positive steps to manage this increasingly business critical issue.

This guidance, produced by Mind, will help employers ensure that how they manage people supports their mental wellbeing and resilience, and also encourage more employees to talk about any mental health issues they may be facing at an early stage.
